HOW TO MEASURE FOR A GARDEN GATE

Measuring a Single Garden Gate
When planning to purchase a Jacksons garden gate, the width that we state on our website and in our catalogues is the actual size of the garden gate itself (as shown in the diagram). So when calculating the gate size required or the space a gate will need, please remember to allow for the width of the gate itself, the widths of both posts or wall plates and a 10mm space between each of the posts and the gate.

Measuring a Double Leaf Garden Gate
When we specify the width on our Double leaf gates, it will usually state if it’s by leaf or overall gate size. “1m wide each leaf” for example. The calculations are the same as a single garden gate but add an extra gate leaf, and also add another 10mm as a clearance between both gate leaves (shown in the diagram below).

Adjustable Hinges
Unlike most competitors’ products, Jacksons Garden Gates are supplied with premium galvanised adjustable hinges. This does not only help install the product and make sure that it is perfectly aligned, but as a natural product, timber will move over time. The adjustable hinges allow for the gate to be realigned during its life, so it stays perfectly aligned. This is compared to a non-adjustable gate hinge which would have to be removed and refitted if the gate needed adjusting.
Our garden gates also include ring latches already fitted and are supplied with the fixings and fittings to attach the gate to a post.

Posts
The gate post required depends on the size and style of the garden gate. We have specific posts for lighter gates and posts for heavier gates. Our garden gate pages will state the recommended post along with slotted posts required if the gate is going to be installed in a fence run.
Timber wall plates are also available if the garden gate is hung off a wall.
